Dispatch from Command. Yes - it has been quieter here than I promised myself. I owe you an apology for the delay and the thin public trail. The short version: life played in. The longer version is funnier, and somehow still true.
Life choices, stacked
I made a few classic life choices - the kind that look like a skill tree with three mandatory branches and no respec. Child care. Partner care. Day-job care. Somewhere under that pile sits a fourth branch labeled "also please resurrect a browser space MMO in your spare neural cycles." I am not complaining; I chose those branches on purpose. I am only saying that when three care queues light up red at once, the dispatch log goes dark for a stretch. That silence was never "the game is abandoned." It was "Command is on the night shift at home." Thank you for waiting anyway.
What I have been shaping while the calendar was loud
While the public log was thin, I kept sketching the next big social-economy beat: Trade Centers. Not the old planet-floor trading house from classic X-Wars. Not a cash shop. A station you plant on the star map - a place travellers can find, dock next to, and actually move goods for credits that someone had to seed with real cargo.
Trade Center v1 - the idea
- Deploy a Trade Center on an empty map tile with a dedicated deploy module, gated behind Interstellar trade research - same family of star-map structures as occupation beacons, not a surface building.
- Foreign commanders only see the pin once that tile is revealed or reconned - markets hide in fog until someone lifts the veil.
- First version fulfillment is physical: your fleet must sit on or next to the station tile to sell, buy, seed, or expand. No teleport shopping cart.
- Access regimes at deploy: open to all, alliance only, or a small allowlist - plus a short public note when the pin is visible.
- Player-owned or alliance-owned. Alliance stations need a manage permission; member wallets stay personal.
- Warehouse for resources and components, expandable by burning storage-extension modules into the station. Listings and desk stock share those caps.
- Upkeep fuel like beacons: empty tank means dormant trading, then a decay path if nobody refuels - markets are living infrastructure, not immortal ATMs.
Credits - seeded, not minted from nowhere
v1 introduces in-game credits with a hard rule: they never appear from thin air, and they are never for sale with real money. The owner (or alliance) converts goods from an adjacent fleet into a station credit reserve at fixed rates. That reserve is what the consortium desk uses to buy from visitors. When you sell to the desk, goods go into the warehouse and credits come from the reserve. When you buy desk stock or fill a player listing, you spend your personal credit balance; a fee slice goes to the owner or alliance treasury. If the desk runs dry, trading slows until someone re-seeds - liquidity is a job, not a free faucet.
- Desk: owner sets buy and sell quotes inside fair bands. Reserve pays sellers; buyers refill the reserve.
- Player listings: sellers escrow goods in the station; buyers pay credits; fee to the treasury.
- Treasury withdraw and reserve deposit let owners cash fees out to their wallet or re-float the desk without burning more cargo.
- Soft caps and an audit ledger keep minting honest - convert goods or redistribute credits; do not invent them.
Not in the first cut
- Timed courier delivery contracts - the schema will leave a hook; v1 is pick-up at the station only.
- PvP capture or siege of Trade Centers.
- NPC AI markets, public map tags, or alliance live chat (boards and descriptions are enough to advertise coordinates for now).
- A full rebuild of the classic planetary Trading House / Credit Institute - that is a separate future track.
- Anything that sells credits for cash. Subscription funds the game; it does not buy you a richer wallet.
This is a plan, not a ship date. Phases go structure and map pins first, warehouse next, then credits desk and listings. I want your pushback before the rates harden - especially fee ranges, what should convert into credits, and whether alliance stations should feel different from personal ones. Tell me on Command Relay or the alliance boards. I am back on the log. More soon.
