Component cargo bays - and sorry for the quiet days

Sorry for the thin update streak. Today ships can research and fit a Component transport module - a dedicated bay for finished parts, gated on refined pig iron. Fleet load and unload for that cargo is still on the bench.

Dispatch from Command. The last few days were quieter on the public log than I like. Life and a few stubborn systems stole the calendar - that is on me. I am sorry for the thin stream of updates. Here is something concrete that did land.

Component cargo on ships

  • New research: Ship component storage. It sits on the industry tree after colonization, ship design, and solid processing, and it wants a research lab and a component factory in place.
  • New module: Component transport module I. Fit it on scout or small hulls for a dedicated components bay - fifty units of finished parts, not bulk ore.
  • Craft and research costs lean on refined pig iron at tier 1, with crystal and frubin beside it. If your solid mills are not climbing metal yet, this bay waits.

Launchpads already move components between surface and orbit factories. This bay is the missing middle for hauling fabricated modules between worlds - once fleets can load and unload that stock. That transfer path is not finished yet. The research and the module are live so you can unlock and fit the bay; treating component stacks like ordinary cargo on the map is the next wiring pass.

Why this matters

  • Colonies that build parts faster than they assemble ships need a way to ship the surplus intact.
  • Specialized factory worlds only work if finished modules can travel without reinventing every recipe at the destination.
  • Typed cargo bays already cover solid, liquid, gas, plasma, and waste. Components were the empty shelf in that rack.

Short ship notes still land on /release-log. Thank you for patience while the calendar was noisy. More soon - including the fleet transfer so this bay earns its keep.
