Dispatch from Command. Commanders can finally gather under a shared tag. The first alliance layer is deliberately small - found or join, wear a crest, and talk - because I want the social spine in place before the heavier politics land. This is the beginning of quite a few alliance features, not the finished federation.
What is live now
- Found an alliance with a name and short tag, or apply to join one that already flies.
- Alliance Communication Headquarters on one of your worlds unlocks the alliance tools. Without that building, the panel stays locked.
- Admins and moderators manage join requests, roles, and board moderation. Members participate on the boards once they are in.
Boards are the heart of this first cut. Treat them as shared command space, not a free-for-all shout channel.
How the message boards work
- Each alliance has an internal board for members and an optional public board for wider eyes.
- Posts support short text, @mentions, and #topics. Sort by recent or by score. Upvotes and downvotes shape what rises - you cannot vote on your own posts.
- Authors can hide their own posts. Moderators and admins can hide any post that breaks the house rules.
- Every alliance is responsible for keeping its communication in good order. I am not running your internal culture for you - appoint people who will, and use hide when a thread goes bad.
If the board feels noisy or unclear, say so on Command Relay. The UI is still early; the expectation that alliances police their own space is not.
Vision - what comes next
- Diplomacy between alliances - standing, treaties, and clearer contact than a public board shout.
- Map exchange - sharing scans, tags, and intel so a bloc can actually see with more than one pair of eyes.
- Trading via trading posts you can place in space - fixed market points on the map, not only ship-to-ship handoffs.
- Politics and reputation - standing that accumulates from board conduct, deals kept, and map behaviour, so a tag means something beyond a chat room.
I want alliances to become the layer where People Fun and Hard Fun meet - shared stories, shared routes, and later real stakes when blocs collide. Reputation should reward commanders who keep their word and keep their boards readable, not only those who shout the loudest.
For now: pick your people, build the headquarters, and write the first posts. Short ship notes still land on /release-log. Tell me what you need from diplomacy and trade before those systems harden.
